LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

We know them all. We love them all. Truly there is something wonderful to be said for just about any group picnic site, Oxnard to San Diego and all points in between. However, there is more to be said about some company picnic locations than others. And we think Frank G. Bonelli Park is one of those locations you can’t say enough about.

It has everything! Besides a rich history, it’s beautiful, with trees upon trees and, set against the rolling San Gabriel Mountains, you feel like you’re in a forest! The company picnic areas are perfect for your more modest groups all the way up to the huge soiree. There’s tons of covered seating, large beautifully manicured grassy areas, and all the amenities we need to create an amazing company event for employees and their families with entertainment options galore!

While so many locations can come with a long list of restrictions, Bonelli is long on accommodations and none of the usual limitations! The park allows alcohol, any and all inflatables, water equipment and applied sound! Picnickers always prefer our delicious on-site food preparation and Bonelli is an easy hook up for our picnic catering services. All this, plus we super love that there’s plenty of convenient parking!

Bonelli is definitely a bench mark as locations go but what really puts it head and shoulders above other picnic destinations is LOCATION!! It is SO conveniently located. It’s half way between there and everywhere! We’re already booking lots of events at Bonelli Park and the turn outs are always amazing! If central location is a consideration for your company events, you, for sure, want to check out Bonelli Park and then, leave the rest to us!

THE OFFICE FOOTBALL POOL – IS THIS LEGAL?

It’s THE BIG GAME TIME! Is your company one of an estimated 1/3 of all American companies that celebrates the biggest game of the season with an office pool? Love it or hate it, indeed is it a sacred tradition at your company you don’t dare tamper with?

Yet, while you watch staff studying the match-ups and making picks, are you saying to yourself: “This can’t be legal.”? In short: No, it isn’t. Betting sports is legal only in Nevada. So now what?

Well, in reality, the likelihood of facing prosecution for participating in an office betting pool as an employee or employer is virtually nonexistent. Employers, however, do face a higher risk than employees. While the risk of prosecution is low, company owners should be aware that gambling can present legal liabilities.

So, knowing all of this, do you really have to be the company party pooper? We’ll leave that up to your management and their legal advisors. But let’s look at the other side of the coin for a minute. As we know, office pools are widely practiced and generally accepted. They usually carry low bet amounts (the lower the better from a legal liability standpoint), and can go a long way toward energizing staff and creating camaraderie among employees. Even non-sports fans are easily swept up in the enthusiasm. Following a team, trash-talking with co-workers, and putting a little money down add to the fun and can help foster a sense of community among employees.

OK so let’s say you decide (or your boss decides) to go ahead and allow the office pool, here are some ways you can help minimize liability risk:

  • Keep the stakes low and separate gambling and work.
  • Avoid online brackets. Keep your pool on paper.
  • Prevent disruption at work by prohibiting game-watching over the Internet.
  • Encourage pool participation only during breaks and lunch.

If you can keep it fun, you may be able to build camaraderie without the added risks:

  • Rather than using the typical buy-in bracket model, allow everyone to participate for free and simply provide prizes for the winners.
  • Host a lunch and organize an indoor office football game played using bean bags and include other football theme games. Click for instructions and additional workplace appropriate games. Give prizes for winners.
  • Organize after-work parties to watch football games together.

Whatever you do, have FUN with it. Avoid a penalty call on your internal planning! Let us take it into the end zone by providing all your event needs for perfect game day festivities!

Holiday Menu Magic

Some of the worst parts of holiday parties is the bland and boring buffet food or the pre-ordered menu items that leave a lot of be desired. Even if your decor is stellar and beyond belief if your menu selections are drab and disappointing then your guest are sure to lost the magic created by the wonderful theme your event planner has created.

Look for inspiration! We love concepts we find on Pinterest and the Skinny Scoop, and our staff can take those ideas and create a game plan that fits your budget and time frame. Working closely with our private catering company, Great Grills, the Team Play Events team has exclusive access to our phenomenal chef with an eye for the extraordinary! Catering is something we do with exceptional excellence and elegance. Our chef works personally with your event manager to craft a menu with your vision in mind and she doesn’t rest until you think it’s perfect.

Now is the perfect time to arrange for a tasting of some of our most popular menu items and it is simply the best time to start discussing a menu for perhaps a holiday party for the whole company or even a small department event that shows you team just how much you value their time and efforts. Let us do the work so you don’t have to!

Everyone knows that Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and one of our most recent client requests if for a homestyle menu that isn’t just bland turkey and mushy cranberry sauce from a can. There is nothing quite like a home cooked meal and Team Play Events knows that there is a special magic in a stuffing that transports it’s taster back home to Mom’s kitchen or a bite of the perfect pumpkin pie with a certain spice reminiscent of Grandma’s. Bringing homestyle treats into the workplace during the holidays is not only a yummy way to spend lunchtime but it shows your team just how valuable they are. Skip the sub sandwiches or the bland buffet menu and take that same budget and put some swell fixings on the lunchroom table!

Menu Magic is just a phone call (or email) away! Don’t be scared by past experiences with non-budget friendly catering companies who outsource their projects to a variety of subcontractors. Every single event that our staff works on is done in-house with careful attention to detail and managed by a single point of contact. We can’t wait to connect with you!

In the meantime keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates on holiday events and ideas!

Creative Catering…

Food. It’s often the reason many folks attend events. Corporate events, company picnics, birthday parties and event weddings, quite frequently are made or broken by the execution of a menu. Certainly we all go for the main event, however if the food is lackluster than so is the memory of the event ultimately. A well-executed menu with creativity and style is just as important as the entertainment and the ambiance!

Often times we encounter clients who aren’t sure if their budget matches with the quality of our catering abilities. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Our Team Play Events’ planners have access to our in-house singularly most phenomenal catering company, Great Grills, and this means that our Chef and our managers can have one-on-one meetings to discuss menus without the middle man. Visions and the creative process can be distorted and diluted with too many chefs in the kitchen, pun intended! Team Play Events works with great diligence and care to ensure that every client works with one point of contact, who takes on that event as if it were their very own. Taking the time to listen and understand every detail, no matter how big or small.

One of our event managers, Kara, recently shared an experience working with a client on a very creative catering event. Explaining that “we don’t just do sub sandwiches on trays, or hor’derves with toothpicks”. Kara and her staff work collectively to get to the core of the clients’ vision and not just make it happen but take it up a notch or two. She told everyone in the office, “It’s not just about getting the event done but crafting something special that even makes me smile when it’s all said and done”. Each member of our team puts themselves in the shoes of their clients and work diligently on each portion of the event with pride and attention to detail that is unmatched by anyother event company.

Team Play Events is not just about satisfying our clients, oh no, we are about wowing our clients and their guests with custom touches and working above and beyond expectations…

Many event planners hire catering companies after receiving bid after bid on a menu without really knowing what they might get. Creating a lack of continuity of presentation, quality of menu, and a failure to maintain the client’s original vision with the final outcome. Our team makes it a personal  goal  to never let that happen!

Check out our 2012 Event Photo Album on Facebook to see just what a Team Play and Great Grills event really looks like. And don’t hesitate to give us a call to chat about your future catering events…we are in the business of making your dreams come true no matter what the budget.

Fall into Fall!!!

Living here in Southern California, we tend to be a little seasonally challenged, and while we adore it most of the time when others are enjoying the leaves falling and a crispness to the air many Californians start took look for ways to bring Fall into their homes.

Creating a cozy home can help with creating the illusion of a So Cal Fall! We searched the interwebs for the best tips to bringing Fall home. The Decorating Diva over on SheKnows.com, Jessica, shares a variety of tips of bringing the season home. From switching out towels and bedding to purchasing aromatic candles that create ambiance, her tips are from a transplant from the Midwest to LA and they’re pretty super. Truly the best thing about bringing the seasons home is getting a chance to change things up on a regular basis. Candles, accent pieces and a few special touches can create a home straight out of Better Homes and Gardens.

We popped over the the site to get some inspiration recently for an upcoming event that brings the best of Fall and of course the upcoming Halloween season together, and well we found these amazing tips for decorating a Front Entry space ridiculously helpful for creating accent areas for our client. Take a peak at these tips and let us know if you use any of the tips.

The most amazing thing about living in Southern California is that even if it’s 80 degrees outside, we can transform our lovely beach cottages or gorgeous getaways into whatever we choose no matter what the season might be! Our event managers are always looking for fun way to dress our events up for any occasion and with fall starting to nip at our noses here at Vasa Park, we are getting inspired every where we look…even right outside our windows! But instead of spending all day gazing at the colors changing in the Santa Monica Mountains we’re working hard to craft specialized decorations for every client. From custom vases to thoughtfully prepared menu items, Team Play Events works with your vision then combines it with our imagination and know-how and a dash of event planner magic and you’re left with nothing short of fantastic.

Send us your favorite tips and tricks for Fall decorating we’d be happy to share them on our Facebook Wall or Pinterest or even here! Just drop us a line or shoot us an e-mail.

Dynamic Dinner Party Tips!

It’s almost October! That’s right kids, the year has flown by like the snap of our very busy fingers.  With the weather changing the leaves beginning to fall here at Vasa Park, we’re starting to get excited about holiday planning, and you know what that means! Lots of holiday recipes are circulating around the office, potlucks abound and dinner parties with fun fall themes are taking over our calendars.

What’s better than spending time with family and friends reminiscing and prepping for the super exciting holidays that bring gifts and of course the New Year! We’ve been busy collecting and sharing ideas with our clients for holiday parties, and in the midst of all that we received a request via Facebook for some tips for putting together a Dinner Party Checklist. And since our checklists for events are slightly more complicated than the average dinner party, we thought we’d put our Google skills to work and find a list that might be helpful to our fine readers and Facebook friend!

There is a wealth of dinner party planning information out there, and truly it depends on the scope of the party. Will it be a few couples? Are you braver and looking to include a larger group of folks? Will there be a buffet or will you do sit down menu? What will your menu include? Will there be courses and options or a static menu? Seriously, every time we sit down for event operations meetings there is so much more that goes into planning than meets the eye!

Start with these things…

  • Decide your party size. Make a guest list that will include a workable number of guests without crowding in whatever space you are using for your event.
  • Create a menu. Once you know your menu you can work on the theme for the event and decorations.
  • Make a checklist! Shopping lists, décor and to do lists will help guide you through the process. We found this one that is really detailed and easy to copy!
  • Don’t stress!!! Just have fun with your party planning. Keep it simple.

In-home dinner parties or events should always be about having a good time and enjoying your company. When you start losing sight of the amusement then you’ve lost sight of the goal to just have an excellent time building memories. And really, that’s why we’re here for your large scale event needs! Taking the time to hire an event planner can be the difference between meltdown and merriment during this time of year. If you’re planning a small scale event and are in need of some guidance Team Play’s event managers can help with that too, and keep you within your budget. Just give us a call and see how amazing it is to be stress free on your special day!
